The Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) identifies and prioritizes transportation needs and opportunities and guides transportation investments over a 20-year timeframe.

The Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) identifies transportation needs and opportunities and guides investments over a 20-year timeframe. The CTP is updated every five to seven years, in accordance with the Atlanta Regional Commission's requirements for transportation funding.

Key project types include: Roadway improvements: capacity enhancements, intersection improvements, and major thoroughfare upgrades Bike/pedestrian projects: sidewalks, multi-use trails, and safety improvements Freight and logistics projects: projects aimed at improving freight mobility Planning studies: projects that require more detailed analysis Safety related projects

Transportation projects identified during this planning process will be eligible for inclusion in the Atlanta Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) and may be considered for federal and state funding. The Comprehensive Transportation Plan will also identify local sources of funding, such as the General Fund and Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).

The project team looks at a variety of existing studies to inform the Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) update. The Fayette County Comprehensive Transportation Plan is scheduled to be completed by March 2027. This schedule includes two rounds of public engagement: one in Spring 2026 and one in Fall/Winter 2026.

Community input and feedback will be gathered through an iterative process to support the development and refinement of key components of the plan, including the vision and goals, the list of project and policy recommendations, and the prioritization framework. The planning team will report back on how public input has shaped different aspects of the Comprehensive Transportation Plan as the planning process progresses.
